Missouri Prison Reform received the following message from a resident of a Missouri prison. Some edits were made for clarity.
The Crown Act left African American people out because we wear our natural hair and there are no products to take care of our hair so a lot of women like myself have had to cut it off due to breakage, it becoming brittle, unmanageable. We do work in here, some attend school so it would be a blessing for it to be amended and the African American people would be included so we can get some products to take care of our hair because it’s all centered around the other races. What they sell and think is for our hair is not. Pink oil, blue hair grease, pro gel, this is just a few hair products that would help.
