The need to lower certain requirements for vocational trainings is crucial as more and more people incarcerated are being released due to some new laws going into effect. Vocational trainings are desperately needed. As people incarcerated try to fill out paperwork for vocational training some case managers will give you the paperwork but won’t complete it and when family or friends call the institutional Warden or FUM (Functioning Unit Manager) they will tell those loved ones “I had no idea that prison resident was trying to do that vocation”. In some cases, the case manager will flat out refuse to give you the paperwork, ignore you, or act like they don’t hear you. They will be instructed to ignore certain people incarcerated for whatever reason sometimes, its targeted retaliation. Some requirements are; 1 (one) year conduct violation free and sometimes longer, 18 (eighteen) months out of Administrative Segregation or Disciplinary Segregation and sometimes longer. Certain requirements are understandable such as so many years to an established release date, or a certain custody level. So, I call on our elected officials to please help us to help ourselves become upstanding citizens.
