Missouri Prison Reform received the following message from a resident of a Missouri Prison.

So if your family member comes to visit and brings you let’s say tobacco it is a whole big deal and process. The family member is charged with a crime, banned from visits, their loved one goes to the hole, and more etc. Why wouldn’t the same laws apply to DOC staff? A staff member who brought in tobacco is just removed from her job position and placed in a cushy job in the administration office with no contact with people incarcerated. Is this right? Why didn’t the same laws apply to staff as they would to an incarcerated person’s family? Is it because of the staff shortages? Bringing tobacco into a tobacco free facility is a criminal offense and the DOC is supposed to uphold all laws correctly? This happens more times than you think staff can get away with anything while people incarcerated and their families are punished to extremes on many issues. For instance our family members are not allowed to wear tight fitting clothing or yoga pants however staff can inside the facility. A young girl was embarrassed by a staff member in the visiting room when she was told she wasn’t wearing a bra well she was young and why was this staff member looking at this young girl so hard and if it was an issue why didn’t the entry CO say something to save this young girl from being confronted in the visiting room in front of everyone? This family flew in from another state and was made to leave and get this minor a bra, and lost over an hour of visit time and the embarrassment of the young girl. Who do these staff members think they are? It is time we get some over site on them and the taxpayer can do this! Hey Missouri tax payers this is how your money is spent!!!!! Call the auditor of the state to request DOC, MVE, Canteen Funds books to be audited. If this happens you will see more issues than you can imagine as the books are cooked! Push that staff are held to the same laws as all other Missourians the laws don’t have a clause that says “Doesn’t apply to DOC staff” this is an organization that has gone decades with no oversight and no consequences. It is time to start holding the Director, Wardens and all staff accountable. So who’s call was it to place this staff member in an office instead of calling the Sheriff’s Office and prosecuting? If it was a non DOC employee they would be in jail and charged! Tax Payers it is your money you can say how it’s spent I am sure not like this! Thank you, Toby Gregory

My son has been incarcerated for three years on a probation violation. He is an addict. He is doing as many drugs in prison as he did on the outside. He puts himself in the hole everytime he gets transferred to a new facility to avoid the exposure to more drugs. This is beyond contempt. What are you people doing? Who is bringing all these drug into these facilities? I am getting legal help.
